Full Figured Fashion Week 2017 Lingerie Recap
For the past few years, Full Figured Fashion Week has been the place to head for what is on trend and what is to come in full figure fashion. 2017 was a phenomenal year for the weeklong celebration of everything from clothes, to lingerie to how to dress your man! The week was inspiring for designers and ladies of fuller sizes. Here is a look back at our favorite events and favorite new styles.
Wednesday, June 14th was the much anticipated "Curves at Sea All White Cruise". Not only were those in attendance looking to meet, greet and network, but everyone there was on point in their all white finest. Some of our favorite looks included a touch of feathers, bohemian inspired dresses and fitted looks that hugged all the right places. One of the top trends of the evening was working a neckline with detailing such as extra straps or asymmetrical design as to draw the eyes to the ladies. For the gentlemen in attendance, the night was about clean lines, preppy touches and of course, white kicks. As the sun was setting, the night was just getting started and everyone looked amazing!
For 2017, the Designer of the Year was Robert E. Knight. Born in Brooklyn and graduating from FIT, Knight has been designing for full figured women since 1998. During his 2017 FFFW runway show this year we saw fitted single shoulder dresses, an amazing jumpsuit in oversized grey and white houndstooth pattern, pops of hot pink and turquoise, maxi dresses in delicious colors and the show ended with just enough fringe to make you stop and take notice. This man truly understands how to dress a curvy woman's body, making her feel sexy and confident.
One of the trends which we saw during the runway shows at FFFW 2017 was lingerie sneaking through. Gone are the days when you should be hiding your bra underneath your blouse. Now it's all about working it! Black bras with strap details under a bit of mesh or as the top under a blazer were in full force. Get this look with the Brooklyn from Bramour which offers full coverage and hint of lace.
Another trend in lingerie is to have shapewear that looks comfortable. Just because you are wearing something that helps smooth everything out does not mean that it should look like a medieval torture device. Part of being confident is being comfortable.
Wrapping Up! Full Figured Fashion Week 2017
Until next year, the runway crowd has gone home. This year at FFFW we saw that sexy can be from showing a shoulder or working an intricate neckline, intimate wear is the new outerwear and when a dress fits just right with the perfect long fringe necklace you deserve to win the Oscar of Plus! We look forward to next year and are already working on our next all white look in anticipation of the 2018 cruise.
